Refined volume and contour, planned around you
Dermal fillers should not make you look like someone else. At Distinct Medical Aesthetics in Oakville, every filler plan begins with your features, your goals and what you want to preserve.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers may be used to restore or enhance facial volume, soften the appearance of selected lines and folds, and refine the shape or proportion of areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin and jawline. Patients may also search for these treatments as facial fillers, especially when they are considering volume, contour or balance in areas such as the cheeks, chin, jawline, smile lines or lips. The goal is a balanced result that looks considered, natural and still unmistakably you.
Your consultation includes a careful assessment of your facial anatomy, treatment history and priorities. If filler is appropriate, your provider will recommend the product, placement and amount that best fit the treatment area and your desired degree of change. If another approach is better suited to your concern, we will explain that clearly.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable products used to temporarily add or restore volume beneath the skin. The most commonly used fillers in Canada are made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps bind water in the skin.
At Distinct Medical Aesthetics, treatment planning includes hyaluronic acid filler options such as Juvéderm®, Restylane® and Belotero®. Each filler family includes products with different textures, flexibility and levels of support, so product selection depends on the treatment area, the type of movement or structure needed, your tissue characteristics and your goals.
There is no single “best” filler for every face. Product selection is part of the treatment plan, not a one-size-fits-all decision.
What Can Dermal Fillers Help Address?
- Add or restore volume and definition in the lips
- Support cheek and midface contour
- Refine chin projection or jawline definition
- Soften the appearance of smile lines and other facial folds
- Improve the appearance of selected facial hollows
- Create more balanced proportions across the face
Facial Filler in Oakville: Volume, Balance and Contour
Patients often use the term facial fillers to describe dermal filler treatments for areas such as the cheeks, chin, jawline, smile lines, lips and selected facial hollows.
At Distinct Medical Aesthetics, facial filler planning starts with the full face rather than a single feature in isolation. Your provider assesses your proportions, movement, tissue support, previous treatments and desired level of change before recommending a product, amount and placement.
Facial filler may be considered when the goal is to restore soft volume, improve balance, refine contour or support areas that have changed over time. The aim is a controlled, natural-looking result that still feels like you.
Lip Filler in Oakville: Shape, Proportion and Restraint
Lip filler can be planned for subtle definition, restored volume, improved balance or a more noticeable enhancement. The right result is personal.
At Distinct Medical Aesthetics, lip treatment begins with an assessment of your natural lip shape, facial proportions, movement, symmetry, previous filler and preferred level of change. The aim is to respect your features rather than apply the same shape or volume to every patient.
Some patients want a very understated refinement. Others want a clearer definition or fuller volume. Your provider will discuss what is achievable, how swelling may affect the early appearance and whether a staged approach would create a more controlled result.
Juvéderm vs. Restylane vs. Belotero: Which Filler Is Right for Me?
Juvéderm, Restylane and Belotero are families of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Products within each family vary in texture, flexibility, lifting capacity and where they tend to be most useful.
Your provider may consider:
- The area being treated
- How much structure, softness or movement the area requires
- Your existing anatomy and tissue quality
- Previous filler and how your face has responded
- The amount and type of change you want
- The product’s indication, warnings and expected duration
The recommendation should come after the assessment. A familiar brand name may be part of the conversation, but it should not replace individualized treatment planning.
Who May Be a Good Candidate?
You may be a candidate for dermal filler if you:
- Want to restore or refine facial volume and contour
- Are interested in lip enhancement that respects your natural proportions
- Want to soften the appearance of selected lines or folds
- Prefer a non-surgical, temporary treatment option
- Have realistic expectations about results, maintenance and risk
- Are willing to begin with a consultation rather than selecting a product or amount on your own
Dermal fillers are not appropriate for everyone. Your provider will review your medical history, allergies, medications, previous cosmetic injections and the condition of the skin in the proposed treatment area. Treatment may need to be avoided or postponed in the presence of inflamed or infected skin, certain allergies, bleeding concerns or other risk factors.

When Will I See Results?
A change in volume or contour is often visible immediately after hyaluronic acid filler treatment. Early swelling, redness or bruising can temporarily affect how the result looks, so the final outcome should be assessed at the time recommended by your provider.
Results vary. The product used, treatment area, amount placed, anatomy and individual response all influence the outcome.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Hyaluronic acid filler results are temporary. Health Canada notes that effects may last from approximately six months to a year or longer, depending on factors such as the specific filler, treatment area and individual patient.
Some products and areas may maintain results longer than others. Areas with more movement can behave differently from structural treatment areas. Your provider will discuss a realistic maintenance plan after selecting the product and treatment area.
Downtime, Side Effects and Risks
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching, discolouration, firmness or small lumps can occur after treatment. These effects often improve as the area settles, but timing varies.
Your provider will review risks, benefits, alternatives and warning signs before treatment. Contact Distinct Medical Aesthetics promptly if you have concerns after your appointment.
Dermal Filler Aftercare
Follow the personalized instructions supplied by the clinic. Generally speaking, your aftercare may include:
- Use a cool compress if recommended to help manage swelling
- Avoid makeup on the treated area for at least four hours
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Avoid facial massage, facials, and laser- or light-based treatments for two weeks, unless your provider gives different instructions
- Avoid intense heat, including saunas and hot tubs, until redness and swelling have resolved
- Do not press or massage the area unless your provider specifically instructs you to do so
- Contact the clinic if symptoms feel unusual, worsen or cause concern
Your provider will provide you with specific instructions during your appointment.
Can Dermal Filler Be Combined With Other Treatments?
Yes, when appropriate. Dermal filler addresses volume and contour, while other treatments may address muscle movement, skin texture, pigmentation, redness, laxity or overall skin quality.
Depending on your goals, your provider may discuss:
- Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin® for expression-related lines
- Sculptra® or other collagen-stimulating options for a different approach to facial volume
- Laser, light or energy-based treatments for skin tone, texture or laxity
- HydraFacial, microneedling or medical-grade skincare for skin quality
Combination treatment should be sequenced thoughtfully. We recommend what your face and skin need, not a preset package.
